The Museum of Literature and Performing Arts is dedicated to collecting and preserving Bosnia and Herzegovina's literature and theatre heritage since 1961, with its valuable collections of more than 20,000 authentic documents, manuscripts and personal items of prominent figures related to the art of theatre and writing.
1ABOUT
Permanent exhibits include Silvije Strahimir Kranjčević's study room and the Bosnian Rooms of Petar Kočić, Hasan Kikić and Isak Samokovlija. The museum's beautiful 19th century residence was previously owned by the Despićs, one of the wealthiest families in 19th and 20th century Sarajevo. Interesting fact is that the Despić family was a well-known patron of performing arts, with Maksim Despić considered to be the founder of the first domestic theater in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The museum's ground floor is home to the Mak Gallery, which is mainly used as an exhibition space where museum through different events like guest exhibits and literary evenings interacts with the public.
