The War Childhood Museum is the world's first museum to focus on children's experience of war.
1ABOUT
This unique, youth-led museum opened its doors in 2017 and became the first museum in the world to put its focus solely on experiences and stories of children who lived through the war. The War Childhood Museum is based on a book “War Childhood”, a collection of diary entries, photographs and drawings provided by hundreds of Bosnians whose childhood was brutally interrupted in the 1990s. With its main goals being providing people a chance to confront trauma they suffered during the war, and giving a better insight to visitors how it is to grow up in a war-torn country, War Childhood Museum soon received international recognition. In 2018, Museum received Council of Europe Museum prize, one of the most prestigious awards in the museum industry, for their efforts to give voice to former and current war children.
